Abstract
This study reconstructs the history of the Sintuak War that occurred from 1947 to 1949 in Nagari Sintuak, Toboh Gadang, Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra, and analyzes the role of this event in shaping the collective memory of the local community. This event is an important part of local history that has not been widely studied in depth, despite its important historical and educational value. This study also emphasizes the importance of historical preservation through various forms of oral narratives, artifacts, physical remains, and the Sintuak War Museum. This study uses a historical approach with qualitative methods, which includes stages such as heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. Data sources were obtained through interviews, documents, artifacts, physical remains, and relevant literature. The results of the study indicate that the Sintuak War was not only an event of armed resistance, but also had an important role in shaping the identity and collective memory of the Sintuak community. This event demonstrated the spirit of solidarity, struggle, and community involvement in maintaining the independence of the Indonesian nation. In addition, the Sintuak War Museum functions as a forum for managing historical memory and a learning tool for young people. Therefore, the importance of reconstructing the history of the Sintuak War based on local sources aims to maintain the continuity of local historical heritage so that it is remembered, understood, and preserved for future generations.
