Perkembangan Industri Tahu Tempe Mandiri Jaya di Kelurahan Padang Kapuk Kota Manna Bengkulu Selatan Tahun 1998-2025

Abstract

The Mandiri Jaya Tofu and Tempeh Industry is a small-scale enterprise located in Padang Kapuk Urban Village, Manna City, South Bengkulu. Established by Abdul Malik in 1998, the industry has experienced growth in production, workforce, income, and market reach. This study aims to examine the industrys origins, its development, and the impact of that growth on the owners socio-economic conditions between 1998 and 2025. The research employs the historical method, comprising four stage: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The findings reveal that Abdul Malik founded the Mandiri Jaya Tofu and Tempeh Industry in 1998-amidst an economic crisis-with an initial capital of Rp10.000. initially, the business operated on a household scale, processing approximately 3 kg of soybeans daily to produce only tempeh, with the owner handling the entire production process personally; products were sold from home and through vegatable vendors. Between 2000-2007, the business expanded to include tofu production, increased soybean prosessing to around 50 kg/day, hired additional workers, and extended its market reach to nearby locations such as Ampera Market and Kutau Market. From 2008 to 2016, growth accelerated significantly; production reached 200 kg of soybeans per day with a workforce of 10 employees and daily revenue of approximately Rp1,400.000, while distribution expanded to various areas including Kedurang, Masat, Pagar Gading, and Sulau Markets. During the 2017-2025 period, production volume declined to 150 kg per day, yet daily revenue rose to Rp2,000,000 due to increased selling prices for tofu and tempeh. The industrys development has had a positive impact on the familys economy, childrens education, and home ownership.
