Abstract

This study examines the socio-economic dynamics of rubber farmers in Jorong Koto Mudik, Dharmasraya Regency, in the period 2005-2025. This jorong was formed from the transmigration program in the aerly 1970s to relocate residents affected by the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir, Wonogiri, Central Java, so it is referred to as an ex-Javanese transmigration area. The year 2005 was determined as the beginning of the research because in that year the livelihood land in Jorong Koto Mudik began to be dominated by rubber plants; in this year rubber began to yield and could be tapped regularly by farmers, coinciding with the price starting to rise slowly from Rp.5000/kg to its peak of Rp.24.000/kg. This research uses the historical method through the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The result show that the socio-economic dhynamics of 2005-2025 are divided into three phases : the High Price Phase from 2005 to August 2011 with a price peak of Rp.24.000/kg, the Crisis Phase from September 2011 to 2014 when prices plummeted to Rp.3000-5.000/kg, and the Stabilization phase from 2015 to 2025 when prices stabilized again, thus reviving the socio-economic life of rubber farmers after going through a period of crisis
